DRAGON BOOSTER THE PROPERTY
Dragon Booster™ is a breakthrough multi-expression
property that blends, mighty dragons, explosive speed, high-tech
gear, and an ancient mystery, to tell the story of sixteen year old
dragon racer Artha Penn who has been chosen by Beau, the mighty
dragon of legend, to stop a catastrophic Dragon-Human war!
The scope of the Dragon Booster™ property as
well as the unique look and feel of the TV show, reflects both Kevin
and Rob’s combined experience in TV development and production,
multiple categories of product design and marketing, merchandising
and licensing, art direction, screenwriting, directing and
advertising. Jocelyn Longworth of Kidscreen
Magazine introduced The Story Hat to Alliance Atlantis at the
June 2002 licensing show in New York and Kevin and Rob instantly
knew that AAC’s wealth of experience in creating quality, meaningful
entertainment and their strength in international marketing and
distribution would make for a winning partnership.
As The Story Hat’s global
distribution, licensing and broadcast development partner Alliance
Atlantis Communications secured major TV distribution deals for
Dragon Booster™. Dragon Booster™ (39X30) will premiere in October
23, 2004 in on ABC Family and Toon Disney’s recently unveiled Jetix
boy’s action block and on CBC in Canada as well as Sky and channel 5
in the UK. More to follow! Kevin Mowrer is Executive Producing and
Rob Travalino is Story Editing and writing for this revolutionary
new show.
Kevin said, “For us, and for Dragon
Booster™, AAC was the right choice. Ken Faier Vice President of
Production and Distribution for Children’s Television, Jennifer
Bennett Vice President of Merchandise and Licensing, Alan Gregg
Director of Development for Children’s Television, and Ted Riley
President of Distribution, all understood the uniquely expansive
creative and business opportunity we were presenting to them, and
they shared our goal of making kids entertainment that was truly
about empowering kids with ideas and mythologies that are positive
and aspirational”. “Besides that…” Rob added, “…we liked how they
looked in Hats.”
Ken Faier of Alliance Atlantis said:
“Dragon Booster™ represents a crowning achievement in the ongoing
rollout of AAC’s children’s strategy. This is a property which
exemplifies our belief that great properties must have the depth of
story and character that are able to touch children through various
platforms of entertainment including television, merchandising and
gaming. The Story Hat has been a great partner to work with on every
level. We share Kevin and Rob’s belief that great commercial success
must come not only from a well thought out strategy but more
importantly from great creative content. Dragon Booster™ has all of
these qualities."
Jennifer Bennett of Alliance Atlantis
added, "Kevin and Rob are two of the most gifted talents I've met in
this business. What stood out to me from the beginning was their
unique blend of creative vision and business savvy. With Dragon
Booster™, I have been given the amazing opportunity to have such a
rich property to merchandise, but also one in which I believe so
strongly. One of the things I admire most about them is that, at the
end of the day, they are doing it for the kids - and that really
shines through. I look forward to the day I can say, "I knew them
when..."

DRAGON BOOSTER THE PRODUCTION
None of the steps taken in bringing
Dragon Booster™ to market have been done in the “usual” way. Even
the technology and methodology used in the production of the show,
were shaped by the unique vision for Dragon Booster™ and the equally
unique and non-standard approach Kevin, Rob, Ken, Alan, Jennifer,
and Ace Fipke, have taken on every aspect of this property. A new
CGI animation production company, Nerdcorps, was formed by Ace Fipke in Vancouver
BC, to produce and bring this unusual and challenging show to the
small screen. Ace, now the supreme commander of
Nerdcorps (yes, that is his official title), was a talented and
visionary lead producer for years with Mainframe Entertainment. Ace
was a key figure on such Hasbro shows as Transformers-Beast Wars™,
Transformers-Beast Machines™, Action Man™ and more. His experience
and reputation, couple with the powerful content, look and feel, and
breakthrough production processes, of the show, attracted some of
the industry’s most experienced, cutting-edge talent, and rising
stars, to join Nerdcorps for this project.
Every choice in the animation, art
style and feel of the show, has been made to maximize the emotional
and visual content in revolutionary new ways and blend elements of
anime, classic 2D animation, 3D technology and film theory into a
single powerful new approach. Dragon Booster™ isn’t just a TV show.
It’s a timeless story of releasing deep personal power to change the
fate of a world. That kind of content requires the bar to be set
very high on every measure.

SPECIAL THANKS
Kevin and Rob acknowledge that the right mix of people
is as important as the property itself in bringing a story of the
magnitude of Dragon Booster to market. To that end, they wanted to
specifically thank their entertainment and licensing attorney, Fred
Fierst (one of the key people in developing The Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtles™ property), for his professional guidance, friendship and
support. The Story Hat would also like to thank DAG and Luis
Anthony Gaud for their early co-development contributions to the
design, look and feel of Dragon Booster™.
